This summer I am going to Uganda, to educate on women's health and to work in the community

A short summary of your project

I am raising funds to travel to the Grace Christian Primary and Secondary School in Kacungwa in the Mubende district of Uganda.  I am travelling as part of the Girls' Brigade Europe FIZZ 2019 team, working alongside Fields of Life.  On the two-week trip, we will be educating the young people on women's health, with the I AM GIRL project, as well as running a holiday Bible club and carrying out ministry through sports, crafts and drama.  Furthermore, we hope to meet with local Ugandan Girls' Brigade companies, and also to work alongside the local community to set up groups and help develop fellowship and friendship for the people living in Kacungwa.

Who are you?

I am Nicola Wolfe and I am a second-year social work student at Ulster University.  I am from Larne and have been a member of the Girls' Brigade for over 15 years.  Mission work has always appealed to me, being able to help others less fortunate than myself and make a difference in their lives.

I would love it if you could support me in achieving this dream!

Your story

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, allowing me to fulfil my passion of helping others, as well as moving out of my comfort zone and gaining new experiences.  The trip focuses on the Grace Christian Primary and Secondary School, where we will be doing most of our work, and this will allow us to help children who may not otherwise receive opportunities that we in Northern Ireland take for granted.  The trip will be memorable not just for me, but also for the children and young people we meet.

Meeting Girls' Brigade companies from the other side of the world will be a brilliant experience, enabling me to learn from them and how they carry out their ministry, as well as giving me the opportunity to share what I have learnt over the years from being in the Girls' Brigade.

Where will the money go?

Firstly, £1815 must be paid directly to Fields of Life, to cover:

  • £865 Accommodation and food in Uganda and all in-country travel costs including vehicle hire, driver and fuel. Fields of Life comprehensive travel insurance. A Fields of Life's Link worker for the duration of the trip.
  • £850 Flights from London to Uganda .
  • £50 Food, accommodation and materials at FIZZ team residential.
  • £50 7 GB Europe FIZZ team t-shirts to wear in Uganda.

Furthermore, there are some costs which I have to cover myself, including:

  • Flights from Belfast to London (and back!)
  • All vaccinations for the trip.

Your donation will not only help me to get to Uganda, but will also allow us to help the people we meet whilst there - no matter how big or small your donation is, it could change a life!

Throughout my fundraising, I will give updates on this page, as well as on my Twitter.  And don't forget to check out the rewards for donations!
