A summary of our project
Our project is to design, manufacture and race an electric powered car to enter into the Greenpower Formula 24+ challenge. The overall objective is to win the regional qualifying heat based in Kirkistown racing circuit in Kircubbin, Northern Ireland. Finishing in the top three would result in entry to the Greenpower ‘invitational only’ final. Last year final was staged at the KCOM Stadium in Hull for the 2016/17 competition. The competition is aimed at advancing education in the subjects of sustainable engineering and technology.
Who We Are?
We are a group of second year students from Ulster University, Magee. We are currently studying Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering or Renewable Energy Engineering. The team members have a real passion for design, manufacturing and advancements in technology.
The Benefits of such a project
We believe this project would greatly benefit Ulster University, Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment and all the student team members involved in the project. Entering the Greenpower challenge raises the profile of our University and our Faculty with a the vision of engineering for a sustainable future. We, as students would gain valuable industry skills and experiences which increases our overall employability level. It would also provide a working Formula 24+ car which incoming students could modify and compete in future Greenpower events.
Where will the money go?
The money raised from the crowdfunding scheme would help fund the entry fee for the Greenpower challenge and the materials and components required to build the formula 24+ car. It would also help towards the logistics required to transport the car from our work space located at Magee campus to the qualifying heat and the final heat (UK Mainland)
