Help fund a year-long educational Criminology and Forensics student exchange programme to USA

A short summary of your project

I am trying to raise money so that I can go study Criminology and Forensic Science for a year as an exchange student at Colorado Mesa University in the United States. This will allow me to do research and engage in experimental learning.

A little bit about myself

Hi, my name is Leah I'm 19 years old and I am currently in my second year studying Criminology and Criminal Justice at Ulster University. One of the most valuable lessons I have learnt from my two years at Ulster University is how much more I still have to learn. I believe that broadening my horizons and going to study this in a different country will increase my range of knowledge, and this opportunity is the best way to do this.

The project

I am really excited to continue my Criminology studies at Colorado Mesa University through the ISEP Exchange programme. Being a student at this university will really give me the chance to learn invaluable information from various professors, give me access to fresh library resources, and generally increase my confidence in my ability to live alone in a foreign country.

I will learn new skills during my time away that will help me be ready for both my final year and my future profession. My time away will also be educationally and culturally rewarding. It will also have a positive effect on my studies and provide me with more culturally diverse criminological knowledge. This change will boost my self-assurance and give me crucial social skills for navigating an unfamiliar nation alone.

In particular what will really benefit me is that alongside traditional classroom facilities, Colorado Mesa University engages students in hands-on learning at their Crime Scene House. The Crime Scene House is used for courses and practical scenarios in crime scene processing, criminal investigation, forensics, tactical training, osteology, and criminalistics. The Crime Scene House is where the classroom meets the “real world,” a unique feature of our Criminal Justice program.

Where will the money go?

  •  My J1 visa and Sevis I-901 fee will cost $380
  • A return flight to Grand Junction Colorado is $1000
  • Medical Insurance is $100 a month
  • Textbooks will be about $500-$800
  • Then on top of this accommodation and food
